Invited Talks / Lectures (Prof. Ankit Agarwal)

2026 

1. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a talk titled “Driving Mechanisms and Prediction of Occurrence of Compound Dry and Hot Extremes in India using Complexity-based Approach” during the Group Monitoring Workshop-cum-Meeting of the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) for Earth & Atmospheric Sciences (E&AS), held during 06–07 January 2026 at IISER Kolkata, West Bengal.

2. Prof. Ankit Agarwal was invited by the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), UK, to attend the IAHS Ltd Board Meeting in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, during 06–13 February 2026, in his capacity as Deputy Secretary General of IAHS, contributing to discussions on ongoing and future international hydrological scientific initiatives.

3. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a talk titled “Flood Frequency Analysis using AI-ML Techniques” during the one-week training programme on “Integrated Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) Mapping & Modeling”, held during 16–21 February 2026 at the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, Uttarakhand.

4. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a talk titled “Climate Sensitivity: Impacts of Climate Variability and Extreme Events on Spring Sustainability, and Identification of Climate-Resilient Recharge Strategies” during the Training Programme on Springshed Management, held on 09 March 2026 at the Department of Hydrology, IIT Roorkee.

5. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a lecture titled “Hydrometeorological Data Collection, Processing and Analysis, and Impact of Climate Change on the Hydrological Cycle” during the Short-term Training Program on “Design Flood Estimation, Flood Routing, EAP and Reservoir Rule Curves”, held during 23–26 March 2026.

6. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a webinar on practical approaches to climate change research, organized by TIINEC in collaboration with the ENTER Project, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), on 06 April 2026.

7. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a lecture and hands-on training session titled “Disentangling the Characteristics and Drivers of Compound Drought and Hot Extremes” under the AICTE-QIP-PG Certificate Program on “Hydrometeorological Extremes and Climate Disasters: Data-Driven Approaches, Impacts and Resilient Strategies”, held online on 18 April 2026 for faculty members from AICTE-approved institutions.

8. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered an invited talk titled “Pioneering Methods for Understanding and Forecasting Hydro-Climate Extremes: From Complex Climate Dynamics to Operational Solutions in India” at the International Conference “Climate Samvaad: A Stride Towards Climate Resilient Society”, jointly organized by the H2A2CR Centre, Central University of Jammu, India, and Tribhuvan University, Nepal, during 25–27 May 2026 at the Central University of Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir.

9. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a research talk titled “Pioneering Methods for Understanding and Forecasting Hydro-Climate Extremes: From Complex Climate Dynamics to Operational Solutions in India” at the Global Young Academy (GYA) Annual General Meeting and International Conference of Young Scientists, themed “Machine Intelligence for Society – and for all Sciences”, held during 30 June–03 July 2026 at Constructor University, Bremen, Germany.

10. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a guest talk titled “Pioneering Methods for Understanding and Forecasting Hydro-Climate Extremes: From Complex Climate Dynamics to Operational Solutions in India” on 03 September 2026 at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, for faculty members and students.

11. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a talk on his experience as a new member of the Global Young Academy (GYA) during the GYA Membership Application Webinar 2026, held online on 04 September 2026, highlighting opportunities for international collaboration, interdisciplinary engagement, science–society interaction, and leadership through GYA membership.

2025

1. Prof. Ankit Agarwal presented a IIT Roorkee case study on curriculum development for internationalisation, joint/dual/twinning programmes, the challenges faced in designing and implementing these programmes, national and international best practices in the NITI Aayog (Education Division) workshop on “Internationalisation of Higher Education in India: Challenges, Best Practices and Policy Interventions,” scheduled at IIT Madras on March 29, 2025.

2. Prof. Ankit Agarwal was invited to participate in the Indo-German Workshop on “Unconventional Perspectives on Flood Risk: Opportunities and Motivating Narratives”, held from 2–5 May 2025 at GFZ, Telegrafenberg, Building H, Potsdam, Germany. He delivered a presentation on “Climate-Informed Flood Frequency Analysis”, contributing to discussions on innovative approaches to flood risk assessment and management.

3. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a talk on “Forensic Analysis of 2025 Uttarkashi Flash Flood (Uttarakhand)” at the International Forum on Asian Water Environment Technology (IFAWET-2025) held from 6–8 August 2025 at L. P. Vilas Hotel, Dehradun, India, jointly organized by the University of Tokyo, UPES, IIT Roorkee, NIH Roorkee, and Tec de Monterrey.

4. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a lecture on “Spatiotemporal Variability and Regionalization of Rainfall – An Entropy Approach” during the Training Course on “Machine Learning Techniques for Sustainable Water Resources Management”, organized by the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, from 18–22 August 2025. His session was held on 22 August 2025 (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM) at the NIH Society Room.

5. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a flash presentation on “Investigation of Characteristics, Drivers, and Predictability of Compound Dry and Hot Extremes” at the XIIth International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) Scientific Assembly 2025, held on 07 October 2025 at IIT Roorkee, India.

2024 

1. Prof Ankit Agarwal was nominated for a meeting with Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Chief Economist Suzi Kerr and her colleagues to support sustainable prosperity in India. Discussions covered sustainable livelihoods, responsible business practices, carbon pricing, and climate tech ecosystem catalysis. 

2. Prof. Ankit Agarwal was nominated to lead and coordinate the Indo-German Research Training proposal between IIT Roorkee and the University of Potsdam.

3. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered several lectures on Climate Action Plans, Management and Mitigation during the 04 days’ workshop titled “Emergency action plans for the dams” organized by the International Center for Excellence in Dam from January 29, 2024 to February 01, 2024.

Prof. Ankit Agarwal was invited to participate in the State of the Science Roundtable: Climate and Water Resources Modelling in India organized by the Water, Environment, Land and Livelihoods (WELL) Labs in collaboration with Rural Evidence and Learning for Water (REAL-Water), an initiative of USAID on 19th July 2024 in Delhi.

10. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered an invited lecture on Probabilistic Flood Hazard Analysis during the Workshop on Disaster Risk Assessment from July 22 to 26, 2024 organized by the Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat, Himachal Pradesh.

11. Prof. Ankit Agarwal was part of the 02-member delegation visited various Academic Universities, institutes, Industries on the invitation of the Embassy to Uzbekistan to strengthen the international footprints and cooperation.

1. Prof. Ankit Agarwal delivered a lecture on the topic titled “Multi-scale approaches in prediction hydro-meteorological extremes and teleconnections” on 07 Jan 2023 at NIT Warangal under the Modelling Hydrological Extremes under Changing Climate at NIT Warangal from January 2, 2023 to January 8, 2023.

2. Prof. Ankit Agarwal has been invited as a keynote speaker in a conference on rural-urban transformation hosted by the University of Agricultural Sciences at GKVK Campus in Bengaluru, India, from February 1 to 3, 2023. He delivered a lecture titled Constructed Wetland Management in Urban Catchments for Mitigating Floods.

3. Prof. Ankit Agarwal has been invited as a panelist at the Workshop of the B-EPICC Climate Capacities Project funded by Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), Magnolia Hall, India Habitat Center New Delhi, February 9 and 10, 2023.

10. Prof. Ankit Agarwal was invited by the Institute of Engineers during the 37th National Convention of Environmental Engineers to deliver a award lecture on “Forensic Analysis of Multiscale Dynamics in the 2023 Himachal Pradesh Floods” on 27th October 2023 at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

12. Prof. Ankit Agarwal was invited to deliver a keynote lecture on Soft computing in the International Faculty Development Programme on Applications of Numerical Optimization Techniques in Science & Technology, supported by the European Commission under ERASMUS+ credit Mobility Program at the Amity University on 23rd June 2022.
