Events

HydroClimX Lab is deeply involved in capacity building, conducting workshops, webinars, seminars and conferences regularly.  Roorkee School of Geosciences is our commendable initiative at the Department of Hydrology to foster knowledge and innovation within the realm of geosciences through a series of impactful workshop training programs. 

Among these notable endeavours is the "EMERGING SPACE TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS FOR COMPOUND EXTREMES 2022 (STAC-X 2022)," focusing on the integration of space technology applications to address compound extremes. The school also organized workshops such as "Emerging HydroClimatic Extremes and Approaches," shedding light on the evolving challenges in hydroclimatology. Furthermore, the "ADVANCED DATA-DRIVEN AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS IN WATER RESOURCES (AI4WATER)" workshop provided insights into cutting-edge technologies applied to water resources. Addressing the specific challenges of the Indian Himalayas, the school conducted the "Natural-Hazard Workshop on Indian Himalayas 2023." Additionally, the "Statistical Tools for Modelling Big Data in Hydroclimatology (STAMBH)" workshop showcased innovative statistical modelling approaches for handling big data in the field. 

These workshops collectively underscore the commitment of the Roorkee School of Geosciences to advancing knowledge and expertise in geosciences through diverse and impactful training programs.

1. Prof. Ankit Agarwal coordinated a workshop on “Career Value Proposition Talk” at the Cognizance 2026 held from 13-15th March in IIT, Roorkee.

2. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Cascading and compounding hazards in high mountains” at the European Geosciences Union (EGU 2026) on May 3–8, 2026, in Vienna, Austria.

3. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Breaking Boundaries: Mastering Research Proposals – Insights and Strategies from a Global South Perspective” at the European Geosciences Union (EGU 2026) on May 3–8, 2026, in Vienna, Austria.

4. Prof. Ankit Agarwal served as the Outreach Coordinator for the "ANRF + IIT Roorkee Research X Impact Conclave 2026," which was held at IIT Roorkee on August 7, 2026.

2025

1. The Department of Hydrology organized the Indo-German School on "The Second Law in Earth System Science (SLESS-2025)" bringing together eminent experts in collaboration with Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry to explore the thermodynamic principles shaping Earth’s systems and fostering deeper scientific exchange from March 3 to March 7, 2025. Prof Ankit Agarwal coordinated the event

6. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and Prof. Sumit Sen organized the "Water and Climate Exploratorium: Inspiring Rural Minds through Science" as part of the side events of the XIIth IAHS Scientific Assembly 2025  held from October 5-10, 2025 in IIT Roorkee. 

7. Prof Ankit Agarwal and Prof Axel Bronstert coordinated the Himalaya Field School Training on "Climate, hydrology, and anthropogenic factors, and their effects in the Indian Himalayas" from October 13 – October 17, 2025 organized by International Centre of Excellence for Dams, IIT Roorkee.

2024

1. Prof. Ankit Agarwal with other partners is organizing the UDAN (Understanding the DynAmics of the Natural Hazards in the Himalayas) Lecture Series. To date, a total of 23 expert lectures have been organized. All the lectures are available on the official YouTube channel of IIT Roorkee.

2. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Using distributed databases in your citizen science research” at the  European Geophysical Union (EGU 2024) on 14-19th April 2024 in Vienna Austria. 

3. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Breaking Boundaries: Elevating Science Communication in the Global South Through High-Impact Journals” at the  European Geophysical Union (EGU 2024) on 14-19th April 2024 in Vienna Austria.

4. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Natural Hazards, Vulnerabilities, and Risks in the Mountainous Regions' ' at the  European Geophysical Union (EGU 2024) on 14-19th April 2024 in Vienna Austria.

5. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Citizen science for engagement in climate change and natural hazard management - tools and applications” at the  European Geophysical Union (EGU 2024) on 14-19th April 2024 in Vienna Austria.

6. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others coordinated the Short- term training programme on Emergency action plans for the dams from January 29, 2024  to February 01, 2024.

7. Prof Ankit Agarwal was the convener of the One-week Program on “STAtistical tools for Modelling Big data in Hydroclimatology (STAMBH)” hosted under Karyashala scheme at IIT Roorkee from 17-24th March 2024.

8. Prof. Ankit Agarwal with others organized the Special session of IAHS on 03rd March 2024 during the Roorkee Water Conclave 2024.

9. The Department of Hydrology in coordination with the University of Potsdam organized the “Natural Hazards Symposium for the Indian Himalayas (NSIH2024)” at IIT Roorkee during 08-10 October, 2024. 

10. The International Relations Office and Department of Hydrology  IIT Roorkee organized the “German Research Day” at IIT Roorkee on 07th October, 2024. 

11. The Department of Hydrology in coordination with the University of Potsdam organized the “Indo-German Field School for Himalayas 2024” during 10-16 October, 2024. 

12. Prof. Ankit Agarwal with others organized the first meeting of our Palaeo-Hydrology: Ancient Disasters, Modern Application (PHADMA) working group on November 25-26, 2024, at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands.

1. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Analysis and Prediction of Hydrological Induced Disasters in High Mountain Environment (H09)” at the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG 2023) on 14th July 2023 held at Berlin, Germany.

2. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Analysis and Prediction of Hydrological Induced Disasters in High Mountain Environment” at the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics  held on 11-20 July, 2023 at Berlin, Germany.  

3. The Department of Hydrology, IIT Roorkee, organized a one-week workshop on #AI4Water - Advanced Data-driven and Artificial Intelligence Tools in Water Resources” from 20th to 26th August 2023, under the SERB Karyashala scheme. Prof. Ashutosh Sharma and Prof. Ankit Agarwal coordinated the workshop.

4. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on Natural Hazards, Vulnerabilities, and Risks in the Himalayan Region at the European Goephyscial Union (EGU 2023) on 23-28th April 2023 in Vienna Austria.

5. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on “Interaction of urban expansion with natural hazards” at the European Geophysical Union on 23-28th April 2023 held at Vienna, Austria. 

6. Prof.  Ankit Agarwal and others organized a 1-day workshop “Early Career Researchers Day 2023” themed on “Hydroclimatic Extremes and Approaches”  funded by DAAD on 27th September 2023 at Department of Hydrology, IIT Roorkee.

7. Prof.  Ankit Agarwal and others organized “Natural Hazards Workshop for the Indian Himalayas 2023” themed on “Exploring the Himalayan Frontiers: Geomorphological and Hydrological Aspects”  on 18th October 2023 at Department of Hydrology, IIT Roorkee.

8. Prof.  Ankit Agarwal and others in coordination with the University of Potsdam organized “Field School in the Himalayas” during 11th - 18th October 2023.

1. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and others organized a session on Estimating and Predicting Natural Hazards and Vulnerabilities in the Himalayan Region on 24th May 2022 at the European Geophysical Union 22-27th May held at Vienna, Austria. 

2. Prof. Ankit Agarwal was on the core committee of the 2nd Roorkee Water Conclave 2022 (RWC 2022) (March 01-04, 2022).

3. Prof. Ankit Agarwal organized Natural Hazards Symposium for the Indian Himalayas (NSIH2022) at IIT Roorkee during 12-13 oct, 2022.

4. Prof. Ankit Agarwal and Prof. Ashutosh Sharma coordinated the Two-Weeks Training Course sponsored by ISRO's Disaster Management Support Programme (DMSP) on “Emerging Space Technology Applications for Compound Extremes 2022 (STAC-X)” from May 9th to May 20th,  2022.
